Airfix 1/72 BAC Jet Provost/Strikemaster (In the Box)

Post by tc2324 » Sun Dec 12, 2010 8:25 pm

Well, now I how brushed up on my modelling terms and know my `flash` from my `wip` here`s another little gem from Airfix I have had in my stash for a `what if` rainy day..

This is not a new mould as far as I`m aware, the instructions and colour chart are the old black and white style and while where is not a lot of flash, as you can see, a few pieces seem to have worked their way loose fairly easily so open the bag with care. ;) The three schemes are RAF, RNZAF and two different schemes from the Royal Singapore Air Force, one early 70`s and one late 70`s. Kit looks simple and if anyone who has made this kit wants to chip in with their opinion, then feel free. :thumb:

The Airfix JP5/Strikemaster is a good kit of the later mark JP, is dimensionally accurate, and is the better of the two models available of this variant in 1/72 scale (the other being the very basic Matchbox offering). That said the kit is from the early 70s and it's lack of detail particularly in the cockpit belies its age. The good news though is that Airfix in conjunction with The Aviation Workshop under the brand name Airframe are set to release an improved version of the kit next year with resin cockpit and other details, and high quality decals for the Poachers and Swords RAF aerobatic teams. You can get a preview of the new release at:
