Summary of announcements

Post by page_verify » Mon Nov 23, 2015 2:11 pm

Simple topic aimed at the confirmed announcements using one liners (as they become officially confirmed as some have been announced early, some will come from Commons speeches and others in the detail of the paperwork)

One Voyager to be re-configured as a VIP passenger jet

Nine P-8 MPAs to be bought and based at Lossiemouth

Predator force to double to 20

138 F-35s to be bought over several years with an additional squadron being stood up

Typhoon OSD extended to 2040

Two additional Typhoon squadrons

Retention of Typhoon Tranche 1 aircraft in service

(All available here https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... eview-2015)

Surely the new Sqds will form on the new Tranche 3 a/c , with existing Sqds reallocating existing airframes and re-roleing where necessary?

The Voyager is to receive a partial VIP fit, but will maintain it's AAR/Transport capabilities it is not being reconfigured as an VIP a/c.

Effectively the new Typhoon squadrons will replace Tornado GR4 as they disband, so I guess we can expect numberplates to be IX and XII Squadrons.

"The MOD’s current basing footprint does not meet the needs of our modern Armed Forces. We will make the MOD’s estate better suited, while reducing it and making it more affordable. We will invest in key defence sites, and reduce the built estate by 30%, releasing public sector land for 55,000 new homes to support wider prosperity objectives."

Expect a lot of underused airfields to be sold for housing.

Where else will the F35 be based? Surely Marham could not cope with 138. Unless that number will always be reduced by the 24 on board ship at any one time.

Interesting answer in response to Angus Robertson (SNP) question was Dave saying 'what more do you want, you're getting Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Typhoons in Scotland'.

Discuss (further).

I'm sure the FAA would like some at Yeovilton.

XV squadron absorbed as you said into Marham - room for a Typhoon Squadron. Move BBMF out of Coningsby room for another squadron there - simple ;)

Does the BBMF really take up the room that would be required for Typhoon Sqd, admittedly it's been a few years since I've been to Coningsby but from what I can remember they were housed in smallish hangar with limited ramp space.

Meanwhile up at Lossie....the P-8's will go into the current 15R facilites with the Typhoon Sqn into the Northern HAS area.
