1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop Desert Camo

Post by steve149c » Mon May 11, 2015 6:53 pm

Hi All,

Well across the finish line with this one which is great as I feel my mojo coming back. The kit itself is fantastic and fell together, no problems.

Kit: Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop
Scale: 1/48
Paints: Hataka for the body work, with Vallejo in a few places
Extras:
Small electric motor & associated pieces.
Model sand (Javis Countryside Desert sand and Stone mix).
Bushes are from tajima1.co.uk and are classed as small shrubs and are self adhesive.
Wood
AK Interactive 'Dust & dirt deposits', 'Landing gear dust' and Engine oil
Cotton wool (sprayed with Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow
Tamiya weathering powder
PVA Glue

As stated a real pleasure to build and my intention was for a very desert worn Spitfire. The work in progress can be seen viewtopic.php?f=291&t=110883&p=713290#p713290

I am really happy with the way this has gone and a big thank you to Ben and his figure painting, really helped me push the pilot to a level that I was very happy with. I changed the plastic sheet dust for some cotton wool dust as I wasnt happy.

One point I will say is the blades are deliberately mounted the wrong way, as in trials mounted the correct way actually produced too much forward pull and propeller span off. So here she is, in her position of tail wheel up and about to lift off

good model, the only critism is that you can see the clear bar at the back; but still a good model none the less  :Wow:

Great diorama which is well organised and the aircraft is weathered very well.
The realism is superb, although the roundels are a bit too damaged.
The dirt kicked up from the wheels also looks pretty authentic.

Well done

Thanks for the comments chaps - yes I agree the roundeos weathered too much. They were the first I tried, would have only weathered front and rear. But we live and learn.
