It`s not pretty, but it`s the best fit I can get.

Cheers Patrick.

After a few days, this is about as good as I`m going to get it. Hopefully the wash and weathering will hide a few `sins` here and there.

Hi TC

Getting there but please don't spoil it with the wash and over weathering :( these Hunters were very well kept in their High Speed Silver finish

Hope the canopy is OK in your kit and not like the rest of it :S

Well done

Cheers

Yep Paul, not to worry, just going to give her a panel line wash and leave it at that.

A few photo`s of the work now completed on her and it`s presented in a way that if you scroll down fast enough, it`s a bit like those old fashioned flick books you got that showed moving images...... :D

It actually took me a couple of days to spray the areas in the Tamiya Camel Yellow as it`s notorious for coming out thick and runny. So it involved lots of light spray coats and allowing it to fully dry before reapplying to get a nice smooth finish.

Have to say that while this kit has been problematic at times, it`s a joy to see it taking on it`s identity.

Image

This will now go on hold for a bit while I start turning my attention to the Phantom Dio as time is getting on to enter it for the Group build competition it`s being made for.

u/c on...., but then my chubby fingers got involved with some rather annoying paint transfer which means I`ve had clean it off and spray the port wing again.... :grr:

So with the wife and kids out and about, it was a good excuse to get the 74 collection out from the cabinet and give them all a bit of a clean.

Also thought this was a good opportunity to also take a picture of the project so far...., but I think I`m gonna need a bigger table.......

Nice, particularly liking the camo T7 & F8 Meteors. Have you covered every type (if not variant) used by 74 ?

Cheers.

I`ve pretty much covered every major type used and I`m trying to get every variant.

The F-111 is obviously a real world what if as it`s mentioned in the Sqn historical records but I have not got round to the minor types as yet and not really sure if I will.

The minor types are....,

Sopwith Pup
Sopwith Scout
Miles Magister
Gloster Gladiator (albeit it for a few days)

More real world what ifs mentioned in the records are the Supermarine Swift and Sepecat Jaguar.

After the Falklands War when 74 were stood up again, the F-15 and F-14 were looked at before the F-4J was picked.

Ok.., so moving on from the T.7..., it`s time to have a bit if 74 Sqn what if fun.

In the sqn history/diary after the tigers had disbanded at Tenagh in 1971, word spread around that 74 would once again be stood up flying the latest acquisition in the RAF`s inventory........

Image

Now this kit is pretty basic but being a 74 Sqn what if I wasn`t going to be throwing an absurd amount of money at it.

Image

Saying that however, the detail is pretty good for an old`ish kit from Airfix.

Image

So now over to you lot....,

Scheme choices.

The way I see it, I have 3.

1 - Early 70`s, white underside, green/grey top and sides
2 - Wrap around camo
3 - Boring boring grey....

Opinions please.

Hi Buddy :P

Being a Lightning fanatic since 6yrs old, and a Colt fanatic since 7yrs old, there can only be one scheme for me

All over metal, with black spine and tail, also large tiger on tailfin, and large Sqdrn stripes on forward fuselage ;)

Got to look like a 'proper' Tiger :thumb:

Whatever you choose, sure she will turn out top notch

Best regards, and keep us informed

As you can see the model is at a pretty advanced stage of the actual build. But then again this is hardly a complicated kit. Very simple in construction the only obvious issue is the ejection seat. It does not really look like the type used in the Jag. I can however live with it.

So onto the markings design.

I quite like the look of this Jag....,

Image

.... and I happened to come across some roundels for it as well...

Image

What to do..., what to do?

The story so far....

Image

... with the base med sea grey applied to show up any areas that need correcting and the final picture shows my idea of where I thought the ideal place for the squadron dicing should go.

Image

Don`t worry..., it`s still very wet from all the microset I`ve applied. Hopefully by the time I get home tonight it will have set and look a little less unhappy.

Hi TC, been hoping you'd do this one! Camo scheme for me, and I'd guess if you're using the fin mounted RWR, it would be a bit later in life, so possibly wrap round camo? Happy Building!

Steve.
