FCHC - Revell 1/144 Puma 'Tigermeet'

Post by FTS » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:42 am

Due to not having internet over the last few weeks, I wasn't able to get reference material for the Merlin that I was building for the comp. Due to the lack of time i've yet again gone down a scale and opted for this kit. I'm on leave for the next two weeks, however i'm on baby raising duty, so i'll be building when she sleeps :lol:

For some reason this kit had two sets of decals and instructions, so if anyone wants the spare set i'm happy to put them in the post.

Here's an update of where i'm up to. Pace throughout the week has been slow but I was able to crack on with it today. This kit fits together really well, but is massively fiddly. I'm amazed I haven't lost any pieces to the carpet monster. I'm afraid to sneeze around it!

After spending ages on Google trying to get references, etc, I opted to remove the centre seats of the 3 banks. I removed the backs of the forward seats, and in place added some Tamiya tape to form the fabric which covers over part of the window. I forgot to take a picture of this stage. As I couldn't cut the tape small enough for belts, I used a brush instead.
Started with this;

and finished like this;

This is how it looks at present;

I plan to built it with one of the side doors open, and also one of the cockpit doors open. I'll try and start the painting tomorrow.

This is so close to being finished. Anoyingly as the rotors are so small, the glue has melted the rotor joint rather than seal them, so one of the blades is very droopy. I can sort it if it hurries up. Other than that it's done :lol:

I've made the deadline! Well almost...ish :lol: My plan over the last two weeks was to get this finished in plenty of time, but my daughter didn't like that plan, so I was only able to bits here and there. Then one of the cats ran off with a side door, so had to find that. Two days later I found it :lol: I was going to do Legends today and Wado tomorrow, but I was not going to miss a deadline, so Wado was dropped and i'll do Legends tomorrow.

I found out today that as long as my wife is around, and i'm left to get on with it, I can still do a lot of modelling in a day. This morning i'd got the white and orange on, but I wasn't happy with the orange, so I mixed another batch and applied a few more coats. Then I completely forgot to take a picture until i'd applied the tiger stripes! I didn't have a staw small enough for the exhausts, so I made them from the tip of a pipette.

Some of the stripes have to be applied by hand due to the scale. I knocked off the horizontal stabilizer when attaching the tail rotor, and that was a oh fudge to fit back on and keep horizontal. As mentione in my previous post, the main rotor isn't going together well at all. It still hasn't set, so for my gallery shots, pleae forgive the finger holding it level. Hopefully itll dry hard one day.

Anyway here it is finished. I'll put other shots in the gallery.

Oh and I wont be building anything this small again! Never, never, never! :lol:

Hi FTS :P

I bet you do start something small again, and soon :lol:

Admit it, you just can't resist it ;)

Cheers
