FCHC- 1/72 Lebanese Air Force S-61N "FINISHED"

Post by buzzer » Sat Jan 14, 2012 10:21 pm

This is my entry for the FCHC.
i'm using 2 AirFix seaking kits to "kit bash" an S-61N..
and plan to do it as one of the newly acquired,ex Bristow helicopters S-61N serving with the Lebanese air force.
so the kit.
Image
the bits
Image
its a bit of a relief to see that Airfix haven't up dated there old seaking kit.. and that it still has all the old bits in it.. like the early 5 bladed tail rotor rather than the 6 blades as fitted to all westland built seakings after the mk 1.. :thumb: as the S-61 has a 5 blade ;)
would seem that all the bits to build either a mk5 or a mk7 are just on a separate sprue.which is nice and will come in handy for a later kit bash.

And one i made earlier! well many years ago! its to ruff to be of any use. so i will be starting from scratch with 2 new kits..
Image
will update when i have made a start.
thanks for looking

When i first saw your idea, i immediately thought of the Whirlybirds conversion! Now you have started, you have my attention!

Do you have a set of plans you are working from? Might be tempted to do the same using 2 Revell machines ive used for spares!
Arabest,
Geoff.

Looked in to the whirlybirds conversion, but could'nt find anyone with any in stock?
Maybe there no longer in production?
As for plans, I do the same as I do for all my scratch builds. Find a drawing on the net (and there is for most things ) then scale it to as close to 1/72 as I can then work from that.
When I have printed of the plan for this I will let you know ;)

Looking very nice Buzzer - when I did my T-45A Goshawk conversion from a T-1 hawk I had plans and photos and loads and loads of data. Its amazing how much you can learn about an aircraft!
Amateur modeller

small update. only managed to do a little to,it but here's what i have done
first of. i scaled up the drawing i had to 1/72. and printed it of.
then cut out the window to make a template.
Image
cut up the second fuselage i had to make a plug to lengthen the it, but used the half of the old one i made seeing as i had already made the front sliding door. was easier to do this than make another one ;)
Image
then cut out the windows on one half and started to add the glassing.. square holes for the window aren't perfected  but a fill and file will sort that out.
Image
hope to get bit more done to it tomorrow night.
;)

Jjust noticed I have made a bo bo!
The port side should have a full set of windows.
And the starboard side should have a different window layout to how I have done them!
Best sort that out.lol

thanks all for the encouraging comments :thumb: it helps to keep the mojo going ;)
its slow going.. as there's lots to do!
all the windows done.
Image
cockpits and interior done and the two halves together.. and yet more filling and sanding!
Image
noted in all the photo of the 3 S-61 thay have. thay have removed the cockpit side windows.. so that's what i have done.
Image
have had a bit of a disaster with the glassing for the cockpit :grr: little trim with the hobby drill went a bit AWOL!
going to see if i can blend it in with some clear fix.. if not i might crush mold a new one

Not done much of an update on this one for an age!
