Italeri 1/72nd Tu-22 Blinder Updated 29/12/10

Post by MarkG » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:14 pm

Well here's one I bought at Telford last year :) For some strange reason the box contains parts from another Blinder.. ..anyway all seems complete so 'll give it a go :D
Cheers for the Scalemodel.ru link Shaun, I will be using that as it has some really useful walkround photos :thumb:

Well I've got some of it together :) Although this kit is quite inaccurate in places. For instance, the two engines are far too long, and will need about an inch removing from them, they mount too far apart on the fuslage as well  Also the landing gear doesn't really resemble what it should either, and from what I've read on the net, there are numerous other faults too!!
Czech company L&M used to do a resin upgrade for this kit..rather impossible to get now though :(
Still, having said all that, I think it'll look ok when it's finished  :D

Here's the latest update! So far its not actually been a bad kit as far as putting it together goe's..but I have needed quite a bit of filler so far
I've ordered the Tu-22 resin weighted wheel set from Hannants, as the one's in the kit are totally wrong!
Cheers :)

Nice work on an unusual model, personally would have gone for the scheme depicted on the box though. Hope you sort out the problems with the wheels and engines. :thumb:

Cheers Dan :thumb: If a company like Trumpeter bring one out (which I hope they will!), I will probably go for a Lybian type scheme :)

That's more like it..!! One of the engine pod's cut down to a more realistic size! :)

Of course, now I've changed the shape of them, it's left gap's when they are mounted...so a spot of filler needed..!

That's coming along nicely :thumb:

A question regards the kit, in your first pic of the box etc etc..... the decals show a Red/White/Black roundel and fin flash, what country is this for? It looks like the Egyptian or maybe the Syrian roundel but both never flew the TU22.

Just found the answer  . It's the roundel of the Libyan Arab Republic Air Force 1970-78
