Revell 1:144 Tupolev Tu-95 Bear D

Post by aviationcafe » Tue Jan 13, 2015 12:49 pm

Hi,

After picking this up for a bargain £5 at the Works yesterday with a ripped side, I thought I'd start my first Aircraft WIP Thread of the year hoping that I could find some of the mojo that has been lost after the stash crushing of 2014.

Box shot:

Sprue Shot's:

I've intentionally left out the Clear sprue on this, as I don't have any gloves so I don't get any fingerprints on the clear surfaces as they are much smaller than the kits I currently have in progress!

Thanks for Looking!

Hi Buddy :P

Will this be a straight OOB jobbie, or have you plans for a few changes :S

Best regards

Hi Patrick,

This is going to be completely OOB as far as I can tell, at the moment though I'm just taking things slowly with this as I've got a tamiya Ducati 916 and a revell Ferrari Enzo also on the go!

Update time though:

Primed the kit in a generic primer from the local Poundland store and left it to cure over night, after arriving home from a trip to Manchester to hand out cv's etc I attached the wings together and then the Pylons where the engines are mounted.

At the moment the prop's are just loosely attached & have a quick coat of Humbrol Coal Black & Tamiya Flat yellow on, but fingers crossed, I'll get the first coat of silver on the kit which will either be Plastikote Silver or Humbrol 56

Thanks for Looking so far!

John

Thanks Patrick, I've got my eyes on a few more models which could be purchased in the coming months, few tamiya kits plus another Swordfish/Mosquito!

Hi Steve,

Not entirely sure yet, I've picked up a tin of Tamiya AS-12 "bare metal silver" and another tin of Humbrol 11, so going to give the AS-12 a go first and if it doesn't turn out correctly then go back to the tried and tested "11"

Small little update,

Part 7 & 8 of this build (not doing it entirely in order) if your following the instructions nessecitate adding the clear canopy part and also what to me look like tiny antennae, into small notches into the fueslage which you can see in the photo below:

Couple of Mock-ups of the beast on a small flexible piece of wood (come out of a small beside table but length wise the wingtips are wider!), first photo was once it had been freshly sprayed with Humbrol 56

I now have a tin of Tamiya As-12 Bare Metal Silver and also my old faithful Humbrol 11, I'm just working out which would be the best to use.

Hopefully have another update at some polnt today once I've re-finished the prop's and added them to there mount.

Thanks for Looking

Edit... Just realised I've shot this at ISO3200 on the 40D, will shoot it at 100 on the tripod in future.

As promised one final update for tonight:

Each of these propellors has been brush painted using Humbrol 11, tamiya xf-3 with a dash of Humbrol 69, and finally humbrol 21:

The base you can see below it is the one which it will be mounted to, hopefully to look as if it is taking off (if I can get it done correctly)

Smallish update tonight:

With trying to work out which paint to use today I decided on old faithful Humbrol 11 to go for the "Bear-D" metal effect, after lightly sanding with 1500 grit sandpaper I went outside on the driveway to a chair which was meant to have been disposed of before Christmas (luckily it didn't) and sprayed three light dustings of "11" over the parts.

After waiting a few hours for the kit to dry I proceeded to fit the wings to the fueslage and tail & elevators together and here is the results:
Firstly without flash

With flash:

I can see there's quite a large gap under the elevator and along the rhs, hopefully I'll be able to fill this before I go any further!

Thanks for Looking!
