Matchbox 1/72 Phantom FGR2 Trio
I really wish I had more FGR2s in the stash as i've got loads of schemes to put on them. I'm still undecided which ones to do but I may do the 111 and 43 sqn special jets and a 74 sqn bird. I had one boxed Matchbox kit in the stash and 2 bagged ones which cost me 50p as they had no instructions or decals. The boxed kit is actually missing an exhaust but i'll scavenge one off a RN version which has sat on my shelf of doom for 5 years.

I've got most of the main assemblies done.

Re: Matchbox 1/72 Phantom FGR2 Trio
I used to have shed loads of these when I was a lad, did one for every fighter squadron we had back then! Spent ages trying to build the RWR on the fin out of plasticard, then Matchbox upgraded the kit and included it! Thanks for the memories.

I wish I had more. I sold 2 a good few years ago when I was thinning down the stash prior to a move, really wish I hadn't! I'm going to have to scratch build the RWRs for these as the decal choices I want to do require the RWR on the vertical stabiliser.lhrlima wrote:I used to have shed loads of these when I was a lad, did one for every fighter squadron we had back then! Re: Matchbox 1/72 Phantom FGR2 Trio
Today's update. I've built and attached the RWRs. I'll need to add some horizontal fins to the vertical stabiliser which are missing as well. One of the kits is missing an engine exhaust. I'm not sure what i'm going to do about it yet, I may build it as is and display it with the missing exhaust on the other side. I've currently misplaced the clear parts from the boxed kit so at this rate the 3rd kit is going to become a Christmas tree! The other 2 are ready for primer.
Here's how I built the RWRs. Starting with some sprue from a Plastic Soldiers Company Sherman kit, I cut off some required lengths, glue them together to make the required height and sanded them down to shape. Not perfect but it'll do.

Re: Matchbox 1/72 Phantom FGR2 Trio
The trio has become a due temporarily whilst I wait for a source to locate me an exhaust to replace the missing piece. I've used Alclad for the first time on these and really enjoyed using it. The 111sqn special one had the probes on the tail damaged when I was damasking so i've got those to sort at some stage. The other will be the 43sqn special.

Looking good! Wish I'd thought of that idea for the RWR way back then! Looking forward to seeing these progress.
