Guess the impact will in time be the erosion of the skills and innovation of the old school builder.
3D printers will be a new tool to use.

Scan the model and you can have a base to work future builds off without building the whole kit again, you could add new weapon load outs, new markings etc. would be perfect for doing a Red Arrows display diorama!

i was thinking along the lines of, say you go to a lot of effort super detailing an Ejection seat etc, you could then bang em out to the same spec!

Of course it can have a huge impact for modelling. But I don’t think it can totally remove the craftsmanship of builder in your 3D printed work. You can still put your own style in the items that you’re going to print just like what these people did: http://www.3d2print.net/shop/our-custom ... t-gallery/

In fact, it is slowly altering the old school builder. For instance, in building automobile parts, 3D printing is already taking the lead. Car makers see the great advantage that this technology can provide especially when it comes to car safety. 3D2PRINT.net believes that it can truly have a strong impact for manufacturing.

So your plan would be to buy one kit from say Airfix and copy it nine times. Two problems I dont think the cost of the 3d Printer and its materials would work out cheaper than buying nine kits, second if we all did this and shared them amongst our mates Airfix would go bust, and the hobby would die. If you are skilled enough to make a unique master and copy it you could sell them and that would be good, but simply copying other people work is not fair.

edit sorry did not realise this thread was 15 month old.

They have a long way to go for mass production of injection moulding kits with regard cost and speed.
