Shame they didn't make one of those when I was a lad, I bet they'll bring out an Argosy and a Beverley soon.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

And Revell are bringing out an AEW.2 even if they have been less than polite about getting reference...!

If you are not going to go into it, all i can think is its just a bit of commercial mud slinging!Vulcanone wrote:And Revell are bringing out an AEW.2 even if they have been less than polite about getting reference...!

Geoff & Seven,
Aside from the squabbling its nice to know there will soon be a glut of Shackletons on the market which is rather good.

Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
Barring the Shack attack, i think its a bit of a tame year for Airfix with the quantity. Cant say a negative thing about the quality although i am not in the market for the Axis stuff coming out. Saying that, i will have 3 Defiants, 3 Beaufighters, 2 AV-8As, a Wildcat and a Whitley. Add in the wrong scale Spit and Hurricane and im happy!
One thing to watch though is the recent quality issues that are rearing their heads! Hope they are getting sorted!

If you think the Airfix releases are dire, wait til you see the Revell catalogue.. Apart from the Shack and a possible new tool Hawk in 1/72, there's not much else other than what's already been announced..

It's kind of a relief that the duplication shenanigans happen in the aviation modelling world as well. It's been happening with model railways for a number of years now, usually with Hornby at the centre of it. Not that it bothers me but a lot of people are quite prepared to start a proper fight over it!

Tame, but certainly not dire!seven wrote:If you think the Airfix releases are dire, wait til you see the Revell catalogue.. Apart from the Shack and a possible new tool Hawk in 1/72, there's not much else other than what's already been announced..

And do Revell produce a catalogue with all the releases for that year? I thought only the 1st and 2nd quarter that made it in?
Aircraft duplication has been ever present and i thought it would be more prevalent in the train world. Lets face it, there are fewer basic train types than aircraft over the years.Sylar wrote:It's kind of a relief that the duplication shenanigans happen in the aviation modelling world as well. The catalogue is a yearly one. There is also usually some releases for august, sept and Oct, which are announced around may time.

Sorry to drag this one back out the past but having built this years Defiant and purchased the Hurricane and Spit Mk.Is, i really have to reiterate that these are certainly not dire!
I just hope the improvement continues!

A nice article from Airfix, and an update on the Shackleton. They had the sprues on display at Fairford and it looks extremely good!

Only just noticed this -
Naturally he will say different, as he's working for them. Given that we've also helped a few aviation magazines, and private researchers (including one for Haynes Publishing) its not as if we're solely on Airfix's side, or just pick and choose randomly who can see the manufacturers archive drawings. They got our support as they were polite and courteous from the initial contact, and took care with our archive.

Seeing I was the as was the chap that received the rather rudely worded 'request' from Revell, unless your rep was responsible for sending it - he's not going to know much about it.seven wrote:If you believe what he says. Best contact Airfix as I would have thought 963 really wasn't in that colour scheme in 1967
Nor was Tengah in Indonesia

I can't remember, it was so long ago! They are both bound to oh fudge it up anyway so rude or not(and I don't disbelieve you), there is still going to be two over priced Shackleton kits on the market, of more or less the same version.richw_82 wrote:A nice article from Airfix, and an update on the Shackleton. Re: New kits from Airfix for 2015
We've been in touch with Airfix about the typo's; as in 1967 WR963 was in the grey with a white top and serving with 205 Sqn. The 204 Sqn version should obviously be Singapore for Tengah, not Indonesia.
Having seen the Airfix offering right from the CAD model development, I can assure you they haven't fudged it up. Its detailed and complete right down to the de-icing tanks in the undercarriage bays. Overpriced? Debatable... its the top end of what I'd personally want to pay for a model that size, but if you wanted an MR2/AEW2 in the past your options were vacform or Revell MR3 and an expensive conversion.

Rich

I just wish I hadn't butchered quite a few of the kit from Revell (nee FROG NOVO Modelcraft and whoever else has issued it)
Its still good for its age alas, all I have now are bits.!!
I might have another attempt with the MR.2 however..
