...we had control line. Some still race with control line models today. Quite entertaining to watch. You get the impression that with one false move you could risk decapitation.

I only flew a control line aircraft once - that was at my school (Junior Tech) in Norwich, probably 1957, under the instruction of 'Hoof' Proudfoot (he was killed in a crash at Duxford many years later - very sad loss). Control line flying - very limited in my opinion now, but at the time - great!

Yup. It's a minority section of the hobby that's for sure. But others are also in decline it seems in favour of drones etc. Some would say it's progress. Some.
