Paint manufacturers and colours
Hi
Can i have a newbie guide to paints please
My lad is taking up modelling and all he has is the little plastic paints that come with some models, they are not very good
What can i buy him to get him started?
ie standard white, black yellow etc
And then the obvious Typhoon greys , F15E/C greys etc
Cheers chaps

Not made a model for 30 years or so, but is this what you're looking for Lee?

Good luck, I always ended up with more glue on my fingers than there was on the model...

As Mark suggests, the Humbrol range would be a good start, that said there are an overwhelming choice of paints and weathering pigments, and as with any hobby some products cost significantly more than others.
Personally I would stick to using acrylic paints rather than the enamels as acrylics are easy to clean off brushes and dry quickly, I personally like the Vallejo range of paints, they do basic colour kits and specific kit for different eras
Have a look at the link below (I have no connection to them, but have purchased from them... but there are many other suppliers online) some of this stuff is really for serious modellers but if your lad gets the bug I’m sure he’ll be pestering you for this stuff Also, YouTube has loads of good stuff from expert modellers doing tutorials and reviews of all things modelling.

Blakey you ought to call in at the Museum Shop as they stock several ranges of paints by a number of producers!

You could also go and have a look at the Viggen now that it's also had a new coat of paint to its upper surfaces!

That sounds like a great idea Blakey!

If you Google IPMS(UK) {UK branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society} you should find a list of model shows around the UK. These shows often have a few traders to buy kits and paints and other bits from.
The big one at Telford (Scale Model World) is coming up in a couple of weeks' time.
