I am currently re-reading "From the Cockpit: Harrier GR3" by Michael Shaw published by Ian Allen.

This book gives a detailed look at the planning and execution of a training mission for two Harriers from No1 squadron, starting from Wittering, low level trhough Wales, to strike the defences at a dam, then onto a communications site, re-fuel over Devon, then onto another target and to land at a forward operating base (RAF Nethavon - I think) and live under canvas for a few days.

Just finished 'Down South', the diary of Chris Parry who was the RN Observer on 'Humphrey', HMS Antrims Wessex 3 during the Falklands conflict. An enjoyable account written 'as it happened'.
Now started to read 'Scram' by Harry Benson, a Wessex 5 'Junglie' pilots experience during the Falklands.

"100 Days" by Sandy Woodward.

First chapter really grabs you by the throat. . . . then doesn't let go until the end. :O

If its the one thing i tell you to spend money on ever, believe me you wont be disappointed. It really is quite a read. The pressures of war, and first chapter starts with HMS Sheffield being hit . . . . HARD.

This is a great thread,

Surprised that Don Charlwoods "No Moon Tonight" hasn't been mentioned yet. A wonderfully written story of his tour with 103 squadron at RAF Elsham Wolds during 1942/3, it's a fitting tribute to those lads who didn't return.

I first read it about 15yrs back and must have read it a dozen times since, can't recommend it highly enough.

Just finished "Boys At War" by Russell Margerison.
A well written account of his time as an air gunner with 625sqn and subsequently as a POW and a his journey back across a defeated Germany to the UK. Uncomfortable reading in parts but well worthwhile.
