Where is ZZ176 ?

Post by slogen51 » Sat Sep 01, 2018 8:46 pm

I happened to notice ZZ176 tracking West over the Pacific about 100 miles west of California on 16/8 having come out of Yuma according to adsbExchange.

Just wondering if it is back at Brize as I haven't seen a report of it in the VR logs since 16/8

According to the
bzzspotters.blogspot.com
web site it landed at Brize Borton very early (00:50) this morning (Saturday 1 September). No idea where it has been unfortunately.

Is that the same route as taken by Voyager KC3 ZZ333 - as recorded for 21 August 2018 on the
bzzspotters.blogspot.com
web site?
ZZ333 seems to have departed as RRR2782 on 14th August 2018 and arrived back as RRR2783 on the 21st.

Via the US is not an uncommon routing for RAF aircraft to Australia, going back to the days of the Comet - avoids overflying potentially unwelcoming countries

Looks like ZZ176 was delivering one of the new Zephyr craft for concept trials in Australia.

A Comet routing to Australia in 1962 was via Cyprus, Aden, Gan, Singapore, Darwin and on.

My father had to go to India for the WMO conference and had to fly on that route to Singapore before changing to Qantas in order to route back to Delhi. Typical Government penny pinching.

RAF around the world trips are referred to by the crews/operators within the fleet as 'Globals'.
