Care and maintenance I believe
When Lossie had runway work their QRA relocated to Leuchars
Local knowledge would be more specific on that and other aspects
Best regards,

We should be celebrating the injection of US Dollars into the base at Lossie.Already work is progressing well here with the new Boeing facility.Much more to look forward to here .Machrihanish and Leuchars are now in the past and we must move on with the few bases we still have around the UK.

Leuchars is not totally in the past as it still has a fully functional runway so you never know what might happen in the future, But i think it will never be an RAF base again which is a shame as it was always a good airshow and it was my local base just 30 mins away, But the fact the US are coming to Lossiemouth is good for the base and good for the local economy.

Although not yet mentioned, I wonder if we’ll ever see the MQ-4 Triton operate from Lossie?

I live in London, Scottish bases are not my speciality! A few comments before mine mentioned A few Airfields for potential operations if Lossie was out of action, I just merely asked if Leuchars was a viable option anymore!

Its defo an option Wes as i said before still got a fully working runway and tower would not take much to convert back to an RAF base as not been the same around here since it moved to Lossie.

Machrihanish anyone ?
Ideal for redevelopment and it's out of the way location was previously ideal ... :ninja:
and a very long runway!
Usable length is currently 1750m
Cheers

The runway was fairly shortened a few years ago, see attached vid I took of us landing on Runway 11, doubt it would take much to get it fully re-opened again but It really is the middle of nowhere -

The issue with Leuchars as a relief ground is it doesn't have bulk fuel facilities any more, so you'd need to wait for them to truck in fuel if stuck there.

The runway and flying control are still operational, and the EoS UAS still operates there.

There’s one problem though, the MoD don’t own any of the site anymore.

Never ask anyone in the Forces What's happening in the Forces? They are the last to find out anything. Info' is on a 'need to know' basis, plus the upper echelons of Knobs get to change their mind without redress. You also have the Twitter-wielding supreme-uberKnob, his righteous self-opinionated immeasurable protuberance, DJT aka. Captain Duracell & his alternating views. Now! which side of the bed did he get-out from today?
