USAF has decided that it does need a light attack aircraft for counter insurgency even after the suspension of trials with the loss of an aircraft and crew member.
It has said that the service will accept proposals from Sierra Nevada Corp. and Textron Aviation saying they “are the only firms that appear to possess the capability necessary to meet the requirement within the Air Force’s time frame without causing an unacceptable delay in meeting the needs of the warfighter.”
A formal solicitation will be released in December of 2018 and a contract will be awarded in 4th quarter of FY19, according to the notice.

Rumour was the preferred choice is the Tucano, but political pressure is being put to go for the AT6 as 'it's an American design and not foreign'. I kid you not.
