strange glow in the sky
strange glow in the sky
Not sure if this is in the rite section.for quite awhile now when I go out at about 9pm every night I have noticed a strange glow in the sky to the south of Lincoln thought at first a satelite ? it appears to be OTT or around RAF Waddington area but could be further south as difficult to find reference point in the dark, from what I have noted through old pair of bins I carry in car it appears to emit a greenish glow and what looked to be a red strobe so thought a drone at first deffinately not a chopper. I noticed one night it looked to be at about 50ft and very very and I mean very slowly rising in the sky first time I had seen it that low and moving S/W upto about 250 and staying static in the sky when I got home I got my telescope out and zoomed in and it just looked like a perfectly round glitter ball.just wondered if anyone as seen or experienced the same thing. very weird.

Download the likes of Stellarium for your phone/tablet. It is amazing how many people get fooled by astronomical objects. They can be deceptive.

I want 2% of GDP and I want it NOW!
Re: strange glow in the sky
Was watching the same thing last night due South of Lincoln about 1030 for around 5 minutes before I got too cold seems to shimmer green and red, used to see the same thing last winter on cold clear nights, some nights two at a time due East and North west ish.baz1 wrote:Not sure if this is in the rite section.for quite awhile now when I go out at about 9pm every night I have noticed a strange glow in the sky to the south of Lincoln thought at first a satelite ? it appears to be OTT or around RAF Waddington area but could be further south as difficult to find reference point in the dark, from what I have noted through old pair of bins I carry in car it appears to emit a greenish glow and what looked to be a red strobe so thought a drone at first deffinately not a chopper. Re: strange glow in the sky
you got it rite just been watching it again moves from the S/E across to the S/W but not that far and just seems to hover there so to speak, and what draws your attension to is the fact it as a constant flickering / pulsating all the time.

Re: strange glow in the sky
I still think that you are see the likes of a star. If you look at Stellarium the pulsating star Rigel is visible at the times of your sightings.

Betelgeuse is also visible but would be higher in the sky.

Sirius is also visible and even lower in the sky.

A lot of people film them and describe them as "Disco Balls"
Here is Sirius and Rigel pulsing away.
