BBC reporting that Joy Lofthouse, veteran Spitfire and bomber pilot has passed away at the age of 94.

What a great lady. One of the breed of great heroes we had years ago in the UK.

Disappointed that there are so few comments. I guess that the youngsters on here a little lacking in knowledge about the ATA girls, which I suppose is understandable considering how long ago it was, but a little sad nevertheless. Wonderful women!!. I suggest that those who don't know about them do some research. We will never see their likes again!!. Not long ago, last year, I think, Mary Ellis flew in the same Spitfire that she delivered 75 years or so ago. She signed her name on it when she delivered it, and her signature is still there in the cockpit.

Years ago I read a book by an ATA pilot, can't remember title or author, but it had some hair raising stories in it. They were certainly very brave and did a vital job, and were highly respected by front line aircrews for their can do attitiude.
