I get a sense that China and Russia, by supporting the new sanctions, are just saying what everyone else wants to hear them say. By that they can be in a position to watch it unravel...

When killing a chicken you break it's neck and the rest of it runs around like a headless chicken! I don't think the world wants North Korea's generals running around like headless chickens, it'll just create another problem. Just like it did in Lbya and Iraq. Both were Dictatorships, and both fell into a quagmire of civil war after the leaders were toppled.

Removing the leader would remove one crazy man - but I'm sure there are many other crazy North Koreans and generals who would relish the taste of power.

And you only have to look at Myanmar to see what power crazed Generals were like.... Hopefully they stay peaceful via democratic means. Sadly anyone who even has a hint of descent in NK usuually gets stuck in front of a Anti aircraft battery If some stories are to be proved correct...

Everytime I think of this problem I still think of that song..... You know the one in Team America.......I'm so lonely....

Anyone any sympathy with South Korea if the U.S. decides to act?. Many of North Korea's conventional weapons can reach South Korea of course.
Huge amount of Sabre Rattling going on , because North Korea cannot expect to come out of a military conflict as the winner. As Harry Patch said [remember who he was, guys?] Jaw jaw is so much better than War war.

We were having a discussion at Home. If North Korea does launch a Strike against Guam & If their guidance system goes Tilt, the Missile(s) could land on South Korea/Japan/China or Even Russia. I hate to think what would happen next.

It doesn't matter who the US president is to do nothing to stop a nuclear strike is not a option. Just think of the money that this is going to cost with a nuclear exchange all the shipping in the area would stop that will effect everyone's economy.

You wouldn't need an Anderson Shelter.

Follow these guidelines in the event of a Nuclear exchange ..

Loosen any tight clothing / belts / ties etc.
Remove any sharp objects from pockets
Remove glasses / eye wear
Sit down on the floor
Bend your legs bringing your knees towards your torso
Put your head between your raised knees

Kiss your rear goodbye

This is maybe an interesting read to some about how and why the B-1 could be key to any US action in NK.

I remember a briefing back in the 60s, hiding in ditches was recommended. Not much showering then but there was a lot of decom showers. Only problem was shopping might be problematic.

If NK really kicks off and Trumpo decides to hit them hard (like he has been saying) what kind of attack do folks think he will use, and do you think any UK bases will be used?

Why would they use UK bases? We are in the opposite direction and many thousands of miles in the wrong direction. Any strike assets will go from the mainland US or Guam or from any carriers they have in the region. I suspect the hardware in Japan and South Korea would be left out entirely so as to keep them off the North's target list.
Cheers

Rhetoric, Sabre rattling and bluster from both sides. Nothing is going to happen other than sanctions on North Korea, until Un realises that common sense must prevail. That could be years away of course.

According to the Daily Mirror. RAF RC135 Airseekers are to help in gathering intelligence on North Korea's weapons sites.

Same sentiment applies as bisfreeq's above! Why utilise meagre UK assets on an issue thousands of miles past the 'mighty US toy-cupboard'? Trump knows we (the UK) have a 'special relationship' with the US, but there is no NATO/UN or Nectar-card incentive to get involved with this scuffle.
There is also the more valid UK mission of watching the back-door whilst attention is diverted out the front. Pres' Pukin is never one to miss an opportunity & must be reeling at his loss of world attention, whilst the fat-boy is getting it all!

PS:- quoting the Mirror article...."An intelligence source told the Mirror:"
I've lost count of the number of times I've told my Mum not to tittle-tattle! ;)
