No. More retirements to make them lick their lips. Mind you, they missed their chance when Blair was in; though should Corbyn get power, he says that part of his manifesto will be to give half the Falklands back to Argentina - so they may find it just falls into their lap anyway.

But the politics aside, is there a new equivalent missile for WIldcat use? Or no replacement at all?

'Should Corbyn get power'

Dead man walking, IMHO ;)

Once Labour get a few humiliating by-election results too many, he's gone :)

Sea Venom is going to be the new missile, although not ready for a few years at best. So there will be a gap. Missile also to be dual purpose, land attack and anti-ship, at least this was the original intention. The range is meant to be more than Sea Skua, although i have heard this is debatable. Sea Skua had an official range of between 18-24km, but it was reported to be more. Nobody but a select few really know but you would hope a new missile wouldn't have less range!

Less range is ok if the attacking aircraft can safely get nearer, but I'm not sure in this case if that'll be true!

Lets just hope we don't have a need for anything before venom is ready then.....
Another case of non-joined up thinking by the MOD ?

Why on earth do we decommission a weapon system before a replacement is ready?
- RAF Coltishall - Gone but never forgotten
- Norfolk. Nelson's County

Interestingly, Sea Venom trials are being run off of a MK8.

Yep Let decommission the system before a replacement is ready Mmm where have we heard this before

Nimrod - We don't need an MPA because it's not as if we're an Island nation & have a Submarine based Nuclear Deterrent that needs protection when leaving port. Oh Burger can anybody help us out because those pesky Russian's keep trying to track our subs.

Harrier - Lets scrap them because we don't need any Aircraft on our light carriers & we're scrapping them anyway. Oh Fudge our new Carrier is almost ready but..... the aircraft for it are still a few years off & the Orange bloke in the Whitehouse keeps muttering that he might scrap the variant we need anyway.

Then onto the Navy

We may as well scrap our Carriers because the New One's are on the way.... Oh Heck we've downsized the Navy to the point where we won't have enough crews to go around. Then we may as well downsize our Navy full stop, Erm when we get the new carriers we won't have enough serviceable ships for form a defensive screen to protect them. Ho Hum never mind we've got no enemies that might want to sink them in the event of a war anyway.
