Wildcat data link problem?

In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Rehash of a rehash of an article posted in last month's Air International.

I'd imagine the gist of it is correct, but then it's Bowman, so whether the issue is with the aircraft or not is another matter...

Thought it seemed a bit light on real info.

The Wildcat export version does have LINK16, ours was cut along with a few other bits in a bid to save money. It will get what it needed in the first place with an upgrade at some point. The phrase is "fitted for but not with".... sounds familiar.

There was an interesting article in the November 2016 edition of AFM regarding Wildcat.

That focused on 847 NAS operating out of Yuma in the US on exercise. As yorkshire82 said, it's something that's on the cards.

This was taken from the article, and talks about the AH1 variant of Wildcat..

RM Maj Sutton MBE
"For us, we would want to have a radar, which they've got on the maritime version, as it would enhance our ISTAR capability immensely. We'd want a free-flight standoff weapon capability to give us some reach, our own way of reaching out and touching that bad boy instead of relying on somebody else, without putting ourselves in their threat boundary. We'd want more fuel, so we can stay there and be a bit more persistent, and we'd like a downlink for better reach-back capability so we could give all those parties we're working with a lot more situational awareness as well. That's all in the pipeline, but going to take a number of years before we get to the nirvana of that"
