Thorpe Abbotts, 100th BG

Post by TankBuster » Wed Feb 22, 2017 8:27 pm

There was a good bit on the local BBC Look East evening news tonight about the 100th BG. Tom Hanks' TV production company are going to make a TV series based around the wartime activities of this famous bomber group, and they were there today carrying out research for the series.

The footage can be seen on the link below, and it starts at 13.26 mins into the programme...

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Look East do a good job of reporting about aviation events and local history. I remember the reports on the Jags at Colishall and the Phantoms leaving Wattisham.

Production team from Playtone productions recently made a visit to Thorpe Abbots regarding production of "The Mighty Eighth" mini series. This is the Speilberg/Tom Hanks production team who made Band Of Brothers & The Pacific. Talk of this has been around for past three four years.

Indeed - this was supposed to have been in the 'can' so to speak years ago - it's had a very protracted conception. As far as I am aware it is going to be based on Donald L Miller's fairly recent history (published around 10 years ago) called 'Eighth Air force' - it was mooted as being the biggest budget mini series of all time - which may explain the wait!

Unfortunately the BBC Look East news link is only available for that day, it then gets replaced with the following evenings news :(.

There was a program(me) on PBS featuring the Eye Engineering Company. They have a restored Harvard dedicated to the 100th
A memorial stone is due to be installed on the airfield which was grouped with Thorpe Abbott.
Rather sketchy post, sorry.
Remember; learn by rote. ;-)
