The Chinese carrier

Post by 22A » Sat Dec 24, 2016 10:35 pm

Flicking through the assorted news channels this evening and I caught the Chinese English language news programme, (Sky Channel 510).
"Liaoning, the aircraft carrier, carried out live gun and missile firing exercises this week in the Yellow Sea. In addition, several J15s took off, carried our air combat exercises and air - air refuelling. Several pilots are now fully qualified for carrier borne combat flying".
Looking at some of the cockpit camera views though, their pilots do not have any visor down whilst flying.

Elsewhere, it was reported that the Chinese Navy has been carrying out escort missions in the Aden area as there are many pirate attacks on commercial shipping there.

This was later reported on NHK (Japanese) news channel Sky 508.
They reported the Liaoning was escorted by seven guided missile destroyers and a supply ship. This flotilla was headed East and had been shadowed by a ship of the Japanese navy. It was also announced the Chinese had notified the Japanese in advance of the live firing exercise.

There's ben a follow up on this story. Taiwan and Japan have announced concerns over the carrier's deployment. A Chinese reporter interviewed an American Admiral who informed her "The Liaoning is no threat to the USS Nimitz".
She then asked "With different navies sailing in the same area and with fighter aircraft rom both sides in the air together, is there any danger of an accident or incident"? The admiral smiled and assured her "We have an understanding with the Russian navy and something similar will happen here. There will be no accidents".

Dunno about below decks, but on the flight deck itself there was only three J15s on show.
