This on the BBC this morning. Apparently Syrian Jets were attacking an area where US Special Forces were & the US Scambled Jets to intercept. No shots fired as Syrian Jets turned away . http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-37136536

Was this the same incident or just similar?

A MILITARY BASE IN SOUTHWEST ASIA — Two American fighter pilots who intercepted Syrian combat jets over northern Syria last week said they came within 2,000 feet of the planes without the Syrians aware they were being shadowed. The tense encounter occurred after Syrian jets dropped bombs near a U.S. adviser team with Kurdish forces in northern Syria. The Pentagon warned Syria that American forces were authorized to take action to defend its troops. Syrian aircraft haven’t dropped bombs in the area since then, and the U.S. military is no longer operating continuous combat patrols there. “I followed him around for all three of his loops,”

Just heard on the news there's an emergency debate in the House of Commons this afternoon on Syria and Russia's alledged war crimes. Conservative MP Andrew Mitchell is calling for 'RAF aircraft' to be sent to the region to stop the Russian air strikes.

Don't you mean "Observe and therefore be able to report" Russian air strikes as that is certainly the impression I
took from the BBC's report. ?

I heard it on R6M news, it was worded pretty vaguely, I tried a web search at the time but couldn't find any details. 'Observe and report' won't do much I'd have thought, Putin and Assad will just carry on anyway if they want to, and I don't think anyone wants an armed escalation. Turkey pushed it quite hard but it was undeniable the Russian Su-24 (IIRC) had crossed Turkey's airspace a number of times despite warnings to stop. I think the way to stop the conflict it is to bring in hard and serious trade and financial sanctions very quickly, in days not weeks or months and stick to them. Both countries need foreign money to function, and looking at that list of aircraft Russia has there it can't be cheap maintaining the presence.

Sparts, you are correct, there was talk earlier today about trying to enforce a no-fly zone over Aleppo, (stop bombing).
No doubt this will end up as a strongly worded UN letter, perhaps in bold or underlined, along the lines of "you have been a very naughty boy"!
Meanwhile innocent civilians continue to be killed ....

The way things are in the "Assad controlled" parts of Syria at the moment, Western protests and "possible" actions will unfortunately have SFA effect - this was predictable 5 yrs ago, and the prediction has now unfortunately come to pass :(

Some news but not pictures of a crammed deigo garcia air base circulating the net, supposed to be a lot of bombers B52/B1 and B2's on the base probably a large exercise.

You have to take into consideration the crazy conspiracy people. It is a mindset with these people and they simply invent stories. Some of them can't help it. In the following fantasy story they have the B-52s painted flat black.
MASSIVE U.S. FORCES MOVED TO DIEGO GARCIA

According to information from a government contractor, the US has deployed "More planes than I have ever seen in nine years" to the Military Base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Specifically, this contractor wrote to say:

I rotate through Diego Garcia every 6 weeks to pull maintenance on uplink equipment as a private contractor.

Something big is going on, the island has more aircraft than anytime in the last 9 years. They have blocked off some access roads and are now parking aircraft on the National Road. Barriers have been set up around the aircraft areas. Temporary barracks and hangars are popping up everywhere. A tent city full of AF and Navy maintenance personal has also been set up.

I have never seen B1s and B2s there at the same time. Actually I have never seen more than 1 there at a time. Now, there are very many.

Security is nuts I had to show my id at least 8 times a day.

My coworker is former AF and said they are like that when nukes are around.

We counted over a dozen air refueling tankers on the ground. The airfield had a take off or landing every 1 minute, very busy. When we flew out we waited in line for quite a while. We never had to wait in the past.

The Navy had the docks full of ships and 6 to 8 more were moored just off shore. We watched many pallets of bombs being off loaded from one ship.

There were a bunch of B-52's coming in that were painted flat black. I have't seen that before.

The same people that created the following ridiculous story. It is just VFC-12 at Oceana painting some of their aggressor Hornets in a Su-30SM/Su-34 colour scheme.

Suppose it makes for some interesting conversations if the ship hits the fan, not to mention some interesting planes for us spotters if things did get interesting, like the excitement of kids watching dog fighting during BoB over here.

MRTT

Any idea why the AV-8s are leaving ("outclassed", not versatile/fast enough?)?

Update: MRTT has edited his post to clarify the Av-8B withdrawal situation.
