where to go .....................

Post by hendriks » Thu May 13, 2010 3:13 pm

Hi all,

I'm going only 3 day's to the UK, for the RIAT.

I have the following airfields/musea in mind to pay a ( quick ) visit>

Day 1: Mildenhall, Lakenheath, and Cambridge ( sleeping here somewhere ).

Day 2: RAF Wyton ( for the preserved Canberra ), RAF Lyneham and the Coventry and the Cosford Museum.

Day 3: RIAT, Brize Norton , Farnborough ( I hope to see something outside the field ) and then back to Harriwch.

Who know's some W&R in that area, are something to pay a visit ?

Thanks in advance, Arie

hendriks,

While in the Cambridge/Lakenheath/Mildenhall area, the Imperial War Museum at Duxford (Google their website) should be on your list if you haven't been before. However it is easily a whole day's visit. You might swap it for your day 2 intinery as Wyton to Lyneham to Cosford is an ambitious trip to squeeze into a day as they entail travelling some very congested routes and considerable distances (I assume you have a hire car?) and little time to spend at each site.

Cambridge to Fairford will also then be a very early start day 3, or better, an evening drive on day 2 and overnight stay closer to the base.

Arie,
Why not buy a GPS Sat Nav POI file from the Wolverhampton Aviation Group for just £5?

I've been to Duxford before, was very nice.

Then my exact travel plans, on day 2 we will travel from Cambridge to Wyton. Then to the 2 museum's.After that we will go to Lyneham. We will sleep in Swindon.

Day 3 is as I wrote.

If you are adament on doing the 2 musuems you are best to do Cosford first then Coventry. The reason being the M6 can and most likely will be a nightmare to travel down....Good Luck to you
