Re: Which ATC Squadron are/were you a member of?
In around 1971 I joined 195 (Grimsby ) squadron. This was when Whinncop was the commanding officer. The squadron had a strength of about 70 cadets, I think. Some great cadets l seem to remember were Sargent Gooderham who was ginger and about 6ft+, twins the Perrins and cadet Spencer who's dad was an adult warrant office. Other cadets who I cannot remember did make my cadet life at 195 great. After a few years at 195, a detached flight was made with myself and others from Immingham, at Immingham. This was called 195 detached flight, but became 866 squadron (lmmingham),run by Tony Lark. I myself having roll number 001, and cadet Rowston roll number was 007. Starting off as a small unit, it grew rapidly. I went through the cadet ranks and became a civillian Instructor, before leaving.
Fond memories of both 195 & 866. and all cadets and officers who I served with. If you remember me (Pyke, or known as pikey) get in touch. I plan to be at Stephen Brown's leaving do on the 8 October at the Cricketers, littlefield lane. Hope to meet some old cadets I once knew, from 195 squadron.
I also think Tony Lark has a reunion coming up, for 40 years formed of 866 squadron, if anyone knows if this has been arranged yet, Let Me Know.

Hi Folks
I was in 220(St Albans) from 1980-1984, a unit still going afaik(saw their minibus at Fairford a couple of years ago).
One of our officers was a senior engineer with BA in London, so our Air Experience Flights included going on BA Shuttle services between Heathrow and Edinburgh in Trident 3B's(G-AWZB), also with cockpit visits while en-route
Otherwise we used the AEF at RAF Henlow where I made my first ever flight in XZ559 Ventura(29-11-81)
Plus 5 AEF at Cambridge in 1983 on Chipmunks(WZ872, corrected) was one, handy too as it enabled us to be allowed(escorted of course) round Marshalls to see what 'dodgy' C130s were being worked on too.
While I never went that far in the ATC I enjoyed the time, only leaving when 6th form and work beckoned.
Still have my 3822 as well just to see how bad a .303 shot I was Groupings...nah, with my eyesight I was lucky to hit the target card
Good memories though.

Great memories Mike. Hope you don't mind but the Chipmunk would have been WZ872, which I just check back on and I only had one trip in. Exactly 33 years ago yesterday - 17-09-83!
Good times eh?

Up to at least 1978 there were NO ATC Squadrons in Germany. Something to do with it being an unpopular idea with the Germans. Odd as until 1945 it was all the rage to have Military Youth Organizations.I had been a member of 1109 (Warmington on Sea...OK, it was thetford, but that was where they filmed Dads Army!)) Squadron, but having risen to the rank of Cadet, my father was posted to Germany, when I became a sort of 1 Cadet Detached flight, which meant I could do 'air experience' with 18 Squadrons Wessex's.22A wrote:Did any of the RAFG Stations have ATC Squadrons based there for the dependents of the serving personnel?Andrewausfa wrote:73 Squadron (Huntingdon), which met at RAF Brampton, from 1976-1979 IIRC. 1(Overseas) was active in Cyprus, which didn't have issues when I left in 1973, wasn't a member then, as I was to young but they used to turn up at School in uniform.

I forget the squadron number, but were were a Detached Flight of one of the Sheffield squadrons based in the Hope Valley and I was a member in the late '80s.
However, I can remember our callsign which was MRQ20.

Re: Which ATC Squadron are/were you a member of?
Sadly due to an old School Playground ( Football) injury which forced me to also quit Cubs/ Scouts as well I unfortunately couldn't join the Air Cadets which I am most disappointed in.
