A base spokesperson for the 445th Airlift Wing says the plane caught fire when they started the engine. The malfunction caught the tailpipe on fire.
2 NEWS obtained a memo from the fire chief of Fire Emergency Services at Wright-Patterson. Jacob King commended the firefighters for getting the fire knocked down quickly. He says in his memo that damage is about $1.5 million to the $200-million aircraft.
The base spokesperson says paint was charred under the wing. No one was hurt.
