Libyan Mirages
Libyan Mirages
The two Libyan Mirages that defected to Malta last year are being attended to with the aim of making them airworthy again and fly the short leg to Mitiga. An An-26 50-DOW landed at Luqa today 9th Jan with a number of technicians.
Re: Libyan Mirages
Thanks for the info , one of the highlights of my year seeing those last September. I guess the AN-26 was another Grey/green/white one ?
Have both Mirages been changed to the new markings now ?
Cheers,Mark

Re: Libyan Mirages
Just a correction, the reg should be 5A-DOW (8203)
BECAUSE TYPING IN LOWER CASE WOULD BE EASY.............
Re: Libyan Mirages
The two Libyan Air Force Mirage F1s have been towed to Medavia hangar yesterday at noon for inspections after almost a year parked outside. Only one Mirage have the new flag roundels(502) on starboard side only!
AN-26 was in green/white scheme and arrived with LAF callsign.

Re: Libyan Mirages
Both Libyan Mirage F1s 502 and 508 sport the new country colours now and both have undergone a 2-hour session of engine runs as they get prepared for their departure from Luqa to Mitiga or perhaps Tripoli Int'l itself. Rumour has it they will fly out on Feb 17th, the date the Libs mark as the very start of the revolution that brought down Gaddafi and his family's regime. There is a remote possibility of a test flight too but only time will tell if this will ever materialise. What is clear is that the engineers gave the thumbs up for both jets to be in flying condition.
Re: Libyan Mirages
Thanks for the update . Glad I have pics of them in the old markings ! Would love to be able to get out there for their departure this week ( assuming it happens ) .
