Belgian B-Hunter crashed in Portugal

Post by Gary » Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:22 pm

The Belgian Army lost Tuesday one of its b-Hunter drones during a deployment in Portugal. The aircraft crashed in the south of the country without causing damage to the ground, and we learned Saturday from military sources.

The aircraft - a "unmanned aerial vehicle" (UAV) in military jargon - belonging to the 80th uav, based in florennes, crashed on 10 October in a desert location during a training flight at the outset. From the Portuguese air base in beja, in the alentejo region.

The accident caused no damage to the ground, specified the defence press service at the agency.

According to another source, the parachute which in principle should ensure a smooth landing of a b-Hunter in case of a problem did not work.

Since 2011, the 80th squadron has been deploying to beja in October-November to maintain its level of training during the winter period.

B-Hunter B-Hunter drones acquired in 1998-to 1998 copies, but several have already been lost, including two in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2006-have been fully operational since 2004. Based since October 2010 in florennes, they operated previously from elsenborn, near the German border.

The B-Hunter (b. For Belgium) is a twin-engined twin-engined twin-engined twin-engined twin-engined and 8,9-metre-Long-engined twin-engined. It is equipped with a payload including an infrared thermal camera and a CCD camera, which allows it to collect both day and night images and a real-time data transmission system. Its operational range is about 100 km and it can hold air for ten hours.
