Frisian Flag 2018

Post by Gary » Sun Oct 22, 2017 12:30 pm

Looking at possible foreign jaunts in 2018, is it confirmed FF 2018 is happening? According to Scramble it is then I read on Twitter it isn't

According to a local Marsum website there will be a Frisian Flag in 2018. There won't be a Fighter Weapon Instructor Training.

Hi - thinking of making the trip this year, but I am a little time-limited. For those who go often, is the first Monday of the exercise a 'normal' day with two waves, or do things start off more slowly and ramp up later in the week?
Thanks
Mark

During a nice briefing by the PRO of Leeuwarden we heard that we will see also Polish F16's at Leeuwarden.
And at the same time as FF18 there will be an EART18 from Eindhoven with several tankers.

Not done any of these events myself, might booked some days off and give this a go!

Only thing is I have never ever driven abroad so I'll look at public transport, anyone done it by public transport before?

Thinking of flying to Amsterdam then train to Leeuwarden.
It looks like near the spotters mound there are some bus stops?

I always drive but quite a few locals turn up by bus - there are bus stops at both ends of the runway and the buses seem quite frequent

James

Exactly the same as you. I was hoping that there might be some sort of organised trip, but I haven't seen anything.
Haven't looked at how much costs would be for flights and train, but I did note that the train from Amsterdam to Leeuwarden was over 2hrs.

2 hours on the train isn't too bad as it is about a 90 minute drive from Schiphol.

You want the bus from Leeuwarden bus station to Marrsum - the spotters area is a short walk.
The bus wouldn't take more than 20 minutes from Leeuwarden.

For the other end you want the Jelsom bus - the main road is right under the approach , about a 10 minute bus from Leeuwarden bus station - get off the bus when you see hundreds of spotters/ photographers!

Too get your monies worth you would ideally need an over night stay in Leeuwarden - the centre is quite historic with decent shops and bars.

Trainticket Schiphol - Leeuwarden = €25,30 and €1 cheaper if you buy an e-ticket on the internet instead of on the trainstation.

Thank you guys!

Found an apartment room in Leeuwarden, good price, for 4 days. Booked 16th - 20th April off work, so will be there for the second week, hope the exercise will go on for the 2 weeks though!
