Travel to Akrotiri

Post by Melvin » Mon Apr 16, 2012 3:38 pm

Hi all

I am going to Cyprus from the 19th till 26th and I just wondering if anyone has details of activtes over this time period?
Or for that matter any details I need to know about RAF Akrotiri?
I will post on here when I get back if there is anything of note.

Akrotiri is on a peninsular, the east end of a dry salt lake, the perimeter goes from one side of the lake to the other,
large sand dunes block the view from the land side & the approaches are over the sea from both ends,
In a nut shell you cannot see anything except distance views of the approach!!

Take care at Paphos lots of men with guns on patrol !

Hope it's of some use for you mate, the best place to watch,if there using the area,is up at the lighthouse, the jets are lower then the cliffs at some points so your looking down at them.

Ive just got back from Cyprus and spent a day at Akrotiri. The reds started training again on tuesday after 10 days off. I saw two full displays and a third from a distance on tuesday. Hard to get a close up view bit if you're prepare to do some offroading then there are a couple of really good spots on the beach near the runway.
