Canon 1D mk 4 malfunction

Post by roughcutter » Sun Oct 14, 2018 3:21 pm

I have quite recently been unable to achieve a stable shutter priority with my 1D 4. I've found lately that every time the shutter speed is set in this mode, the speed tends to change usually to a slower speed. I've tried to get around this anomaly by setting the shutter speed in Manual mode, but then another problem arises because in M mode I'm unable to set the aperture, I have checked the user manual. Has anyone encountered this problem before and is there a way to remedy this (before I send the camera off to the repairers)? Also (if it's a worse case scenario) could anyone recommend a good repairer (cheaper than Lehmans)?

Have you tried resetting the camera to defaults?

Not sure I follow your description, but it sounds like the Safety Shift (C.Fn I-8) kicking in; perhaps because of related settings for C.Fn I-3 (ISO), C.Fn I-12 (shutter) or C.Fn I-13 (aperture) limits?

In TV mode, is the aperture at the max when this occurs?
In Manual, what do you mean by "unable to set the aperture"?

Agree with the above, also make sure you have the on/off switch past 'on' to the line symbol, for full functionality.

Paul you've hit the nail on the head, Custom Function 1 - 8 Safety Shift. It's working fine now (including the aperture setting on Manual). There's so much I need to learn with this camera
Thanks for the feedback guys :thumb:
