Canon lens question
Just want to know if anyone on here has had experience with Canon 70-300 IS USM lens ?
The attraction for me is that it has IS on it, whereby my Tamron 75-300 Hasn't.
Thanks in advance for you views/opinions.

Re: Canon lens question
I'll be interested in responses, thinking about getting the same lens.
I have a Canon 55-250 which is great, but I got a 18-135 USM with my 80D and the USM focusing is excellent.

Re: Canon lens question
I have one and it's great. Doesn't weigh that much, but certainly good for approach/take off shots if you're close by. I use a Sigma 150-600C for Airshows etc.

Re: Canon lens question
Thanks chaps. Yes James I have the Sigma 150-500 for Airshows. I currently have a Tamron 70-300mm lens which I have used on My travels in Germany and Holland. I do a day trip every now and again and it does'nt take up too much room in the cabin baggage. Can't make my mind up lol. Only had the Tamron since June last year.
Head scratching time lol
Cheers

Apologies for jumping in on this thread, but I am thinking of getting the SIGMA 150-600. Have read quite a few reviews, all appear very positive, but not many users are into aviation
If you don't mind, can you let me have your opinion, seeing you use it for airshows, as that is what my main use will be too ?
Thanks in advance

Re: Canon lens question
Hi Martin,
Apologies for the delay in replying.
In a nutshell, I love it!! For around £700, you get a whole lotta lens for a fairly small outlay.
Yes, it weighs a bit, but I just rest it when I don't need to hold it and the tripod collar (could be longer) makes it easier to carry the lens and body with a shoulder strap also attached.
For solo displays, it's a no brainer, but for large aircraft / formation teams, it can be a bit too close when they're nearby. That said, all my shots were taken with it on the 3 days that I attended (Weds/Sat/Mon).
I'f I made a living (I wish) out of my images, then I'd obviously have the Sports Version or better.
Hope that helps

Thanks again James. Great shots, well done
Have viewed your others on Flickr, you have a very good selection and the lens looks sharp even at the top end
Appreciate your help with this
Enjoy RIAT, if you are going again this year. I will be there
Cheers

Re: Canon lens question
Thanks Martin,
Glad you think they're good. I have not uploaded my shots from the Saturday for some reason (job for me tonight). You'll get to see how it fairs in more 'common' RIAT weather lol. I'm off RIAT week by strange coincidence (I usualy spend it watching the validations for Farnbrough as it's down the road from me), but may take in another arrivals day.
I've already got tickets for the Friday this year. Weather permitting will be a factor on whether or not go back for Departures, or hang around for the Farnbrough opening. Reds and F35 2016 in grey skies, Reds and Vulcan in the past too, so something may be worth catching.
I used the lens on a 7D which seemed to have a bit too much noise for my liking, so I'm reverting back to my trusty 60D to see how that fairs. I popped over to LHR yesterday with my 70-300 IS and the majority of the shots seemed to be 'cleaner' even with the shivver factor from the winter winds haha!

Hi James
Look forward to viewing further shots. I have heard the 70-300 is a great lens too. Spoilt for choice these days. Just need the money to splash out on all this great equipment
Enjoy and happy spotting

Re: Canon lens question
Thanks Martin,
It's not only the money that you need. An understanding other half seems to help haha!
Had an impusle trip up the the Hall and Heath last year when the Raptors and Lightnings were over and thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours there. No Raptor activity at Mildenhall, but a got treated to a 6 ship F15 'go around' that seemed to last around 25 minutes. Just about to call it a day and make the 2 hour drive when 4 Lightnings decided to come home.
I'm following you on Flickr now so I can see when you take the plunge with the 150-600
