Best Lenses?

Post by 3051Howe » Fri Dec 29, 2017 7:13 pm

Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice. I've been using a Canon 400D with a Sigma 70-300mm lens for years now. I've found though that 300mm max isn't particularly great enough with this lens and I'm often having to do a lot of cropping and editing afterward.

I've just upgraded to a Canon 750D (perfect Xmas present) and I'm looking to get a new and decent lens for the upcoming year - especially with FRIAT in the bag!!

Looking for advice on what lenses people use on here and what you would recommend?

I've been looking at the canon website, also looking for advice one what's preferred telephoto or zoom lenses?

Cheers!

Chris

Hi Chris.

I have the 750d too. I use the Sigma APO DG OS 150-500mm . With great results. However since I got my lens they brought out the 150-600mm, so would recommend one of those 2 depending on how much you want to spend. For a shorter lens thats easier to carry when travelling I was very impressed with the results from the Canon 55-250 IS STM lens. Which effectively shoots in HD.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

Depends on how much money you have to spend,
400mm plus is going to cost you more then your new camera. The canon 100-400mm is very popular.

Then you have these new superzooms like the Tamron 150-600mm or the Sigma version.
Both these big zooms have got some very good reviews,

Cheapest zoom would-be the Sigma 50-500mm DG model, this being a very good alrounder.
Plenty on Ebay around 2-3 hundred pounds 2nd hand.

For the money, plus your friat seat, you will struggle on take off shots with 100mm or more, with getting in a large aircraft or a display team all in. The sigma 50-500mm is very flexible and would be the cheapest option.

If your budget allows then the Canon 100-400 L Mk ii would be my choice. Remember that the 400 max’d out on the 750d is 640mm equivalent on 35mm so plenty of range. The Tamron and Sigma may have another 200mm(320mm equivalent) range but you pay for it with lower optical quality on both. The Canon is so crisp at 400mm that if you have your camera settings right then cropping in isn’t a problem, even up to 100%.
