Canon 80d with Canon EF 100-400 f/4-5-5.6L IS USM Mk II
Looking at hiring the above lens for a trip away and putting it on a 80d. I know that the lens is designed around the Canon full frame cameras, so is there anything I need to be aware of/adjust for the lens to work properly on the APS-C format of the 80d?
Thanks in advance.

I have it with a 70D and it's perfect,shouldn't have any problems.

My wife has that combo when she uses my lens on her 80D, no problems other than her images often put mine to shame.

It should work brilliantly this combo delivers the goods on the 7dmk2 so no reason why it should be different with the 80d.

As above really, great lens on a FF or crop. use mine on a 70D as well as a 1DX2 and all is good with great results
The last time I saw an F22 at Lakenheath i DIDN'T photoshop it...

Just to add to the initial question by throwing the Canon EF MkIII 1.4X into the equation, except for the one stop drop is there anything I need to be aware of?
I believe the IS still works the same across all 3 IS settings and the camera will still calculate auto exposures correctly?

This was taken on a 7D mk ii with a EF 100-400 mk ii and the mk ii of the 1.4 extender, so the mk iii will potentially improve on this:

Camera functions all work but auto focus is on just the centre spot, only problem is the Kingfisher sat on the wrong end of the perch....

Fantastic photograph, looks even better when you look at it through Flickr
Regards the Auto focus is that something that the camera/lens/tc will default to or do I have to select the centre point AF manually ?

Just tested it in the garden and my 7D mk ii selects the centre point automatically, however the golden rule with extenders is attached them to the lens first and then attach the extender plus lens to the camera.
It helps the camera to know what its dealing with.

Thanks Keith, much appreciated. Renting the 100-400 MKII for a trip soon and wondered if it was worthwhile adding the x1.4 MKIII , seeing that picture makes me think it is. Just didn't want to find myself with a lot of extra work/problems by using it, as I won't really have time to try it out beforehand.

Been looking more into this and I've just watched a tutorial on YouTube, it mentions that the AF is restricted to the centre point on the 7d MkII, however on the 80d you get 27 points across all the AF selection groups.
