Canon 100-400mm IS L USM lens

Post by kevinm » Thu Jun 15, 2017 1:02 pm

Good afternoon All,

Over the years, I have used Nikon for aircraft photography but now have a Canon EOS 750D 'entry' level as I am a relative novice apart from 'for the record' photos.

I would like to try the Canon 100-400mm IS L USM lens for aviation but have read that the image stabiliser on the lens may not be compatible with the EOS 750D and that the 7D is an excellent partner for the lens?

Could anyone confirm this please?

Your help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Kevin

Weird if that's the case as it works on the much older bodies like 350D, 400D, etc.

Yes 7D and 100-400 is a great aircraft photography combo :thumb:

I've seen mention of the IS not working on the 100-400 USMII when paired up with Canon EF tele convertors on some of their cameras

If you open the link below then click on specification it tell's you more

Canon's image stabilisation (IS) system is in the lens and operates independently of the camera body. Therefore the IS will work no matter which body it is attached to.

It is, but so is 750D. the EF 100-400 L lenses are a big step up in quality from the entry level lenses, e.g. in image quality and autofocus speed and accuracy, and this will be very evident on a 750D.

Totally agree - used a Mk1 100 to 400mm lens on a 350d for years - loved it!

Agree with all the above postings, I bought a 750d last year. The camera is great. If you are going to use a high quality lens like the one you suggested then your results should be very satisfactory. Good luck.

Cheers
