Bags

Postby DanSeaman » Thu Dec 01, 2016 4:01 pm

Hi Guys,

Moving on from ladders to another photography subject..... Camera bags.

I'm currently using a Lowepro 400AW,
It currently houses as follows:
1 Body
A Sigma 150-600
Tamron 18-270
Canon 55-250
Spotters scope
Battery's cards etc....

One problem is that whilst all that is good for photography, I'm starving! (Not literally) but I am having to carry 2 bags.

whats the biggest bags you guys and girls use?

Having trolled through the internet for 2-3hours it seems like very limited choice

Just a suggestion, have you considered a framed rucksack/backpack with upper and lower compartments.
Line the top compartment with foam to protect your gear. and use the lower one for food and drink.( being in the lower compartment, if a bottle or flask leaks, it won't harm your photo gear.)

Good for air shows too because it keeps your hands free ! Remember you don't necessarily have to carry a camera in a camera bag.

Equipment.

Canon EOS 450D
Canon EOS 750D
Nikon L810 Bridge/Compact.
Sigma APO OS DG 150-500mm

How much grub are you looking to carry. There 's a review of the 400 on YouTube where the guy uses molle pouches attached to the waist belt to increase capacity

Dan, thanks for posting this - I was looking at that bag, as I also have a Sigma 150-600 and was wondering whether it was big enough. I also saw the lowepro trek series, which combine photo storage and other space: https://www.lowepro.co.uk/brands/lowepr ... -aw/pd386/

I would be interested to see a picture of your bag and the layout of the kit if you wouldn't mind.

Here's how I pack my Flipside 400AW...

ImageCamera bag by Lee Adcock, on Flickr

I have the same problem as mentioned before that I can't get food/drinks inside the bag, but at a push a small flask will fit in the side pocket and a small sandwich box will fit in the back pocket, but it would be tight.

I really like the bag and it's very comfortable carrying with all the gear over several miles.

Next year the D5300 and 55-300mm are going to make way for another D7200 and a 70-200mm f4. Not sure how that's going to fit so I'll be looking for something just a bit bigger.

Thanks, I would probably want to be able to carry the camera separate from the big lens. It looks like there would be plenty of space.
