Any ideas what this is on one of my pics

Post by powerslave » Thu Mar 03, 2016 9:48 pm

Hello
Just been out at Warton today with my Canon 100-400mm mk 2,love the lens its great.
When i got home i noticed a few shots i took at around 300 mm had this strange green light near the typhoon.
Any ideas what camera phenomenon it is nd why it's there,is the lens okay, not had any problems with it,it's fantastic.
Just kinda like to know why its there.
First time uploader to flickr,so hope it works out okay.

Looks like some lens flare as a result of the very bright light and dark conditions....fairly common (in fact that's very good considering....easily clone able!)

I'm no expert but I agree, looks like lens flare from the landing light or the strobe on the Typhoon. Nicely caught with that too :thumb:
Considering the (lack of) daylight they are good shots.
That mkII is a cracking lens, I use mine with a 70D and it seems a great combination.
Look forward to more pics from you :)

Yeah,it's a brilliant lens.
I get way more useable shots than when I used the mk1.
Have a look at the two links below for shots from the 70d and mk 2.
Haven't really put any shots from my travels in here, mainly put them on airfighters or airliners.

Lens flare, the bright light went through your filter, bounced off the front element of your lens then bounced back into the camera.

The lens manufacturers spend a lot of money to perfect the coatings on their lenses and the best thing that you can do is trust them and bin the filter.
