You will lose autofocus, I was thinking this lens as an alternate to the 300 with the 1.4 attached, for me 300mm is just too short for most part I would imagine you would nearly always have the 1.4 attached.

Not military I'm afraid, but had the first outing with the new lens at local airfield yesterday.
Very impressed, cannot wait for the weather to warm up a bit, and get to a military airfield.
