Damaged Canon 600d

Post by John flightpath » Mon Jan 18, 2016 10:44 pm

I have been looking at an EOS600D.

It has been dropped, the lens took the brunt of the force and was smashed beyond repair. The body and controls are fine apart from the lens connectors on the ring. Therefore rendering AF/EF lenses useless.

Anyone got any idea of cost of and level of repair required to correct it. Perhaps some of you have had the same misfortune.

Cheers
John 'flightpath'.

2 too 300 pounds at a guess. Could discover other issues not seen.
Would say damage cost could out weigh the value of the camera. Could be wrong.

I wouldn't bother with it, too much hassle, if it was your own you could claim on insurance but otherwise as someone else said, walk away....take a look at MPB, there is bound to be one on there to suit you.
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

I'd stay away, or at least do an advanced serach on ebay for sold bodies ands see what spares & repairs ones went for. I had a 20D, similar problem caused by corrosion rather than impact damage, it was a money pit in the end I had to give up on and scrap. Each repair revealed another problem that wasn't apparent.

If it's been dropped the body could be distorted, that can cause all kinds of problems electronically and optically. Differential focus left&right and/or top& bottom, zoom centre tracking off, light leaks at the back of the lens, a tiny gap fractions of a millimetre can cause problems that are only apparent on a particular lens at a particular focal length.

Well I think you have all pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I looks ok in the photos but you never know.
Mark, I would'nt like to insult you. I know how much they average at. I was wondering whether to take a chance and finish up with a bargain. I have an Eos450d that I bought 6 months ago which I am very happy with. It is my first adventure with Canon kit and I am impressed. You can always PM me when you decide to sell, and see if I bite. You can sell the battery grip seperately. Only interested in the body and the condition/shutter count.

Thank you all
