Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
Am looking to upgrade my Canon body over the winter and was looking at the (second hand) Canon 5D mark ii but several reviews refer to slow auto focus.
Any comments on this or suggested alternatives, the more I spend on the body the less I have to spend on beer.....
Thanks
P.S. To all the Nikon fans I have too many Canon lenses to change systems

What body do you have at the moment?
Re: Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
Currently using a Canon 500D which I am planning to keep as a backup.

Re: Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
I'd have thought slow autofocus was down to the lenses rather than the body ?
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
New 70D for about £700 or a 7D Mk II would be my choices.

Re: Upgrading Canon body - suggestions
I upgraded about a month ago from a 600d to a 70D.
Seems like a quantum leap to me in terms of build quality and functionality, and that is only stepping up one model range.
I did consider a 7d Mk1 at the time, and very nearly bought one, however the thing that put me off was the need to then go and purchase compact flash cards, and that using a macbook, I would have also needed to have got an external flash card reader etc, so would have added to the expense...
I would say that either going for a 70d, or a used 7d Mk1 would be a better bet - or look at your lenses (depending on what you already have that is!).

Another vote for a 7D mk 1 from me...
I have had mine since July, and its worth every penny I paid for it.
Compact Flash cards are not too expensive, you should be able to get a good (S....sk) 16Gb card for under £25, even in RAW, thats over 500 pics!
A cheap reader is under a fiver, and a good (USB3) one will cost under £20...

Take a look at a 1D3 it murders a 7Dmk1 they had focus issues, but most would of been sorted by now. Build quality is awesome. £400-£500 ish

No they are 1.3 crop. I had a 7D and 1D3 at the same time, in 2013. 7D was very poor compared to the 1D, comparison was at Redflag 2013, Nellis afb, las vegas usa, conditions were perfect.Cornish-guy wrote:CookyBoy wrote:Take a look at a 1D3 it murders a 7Dmk1 they had focus issues, but most would of been sorted by now. The 7D produced very noisy images even at 160-200 iso. Only my opinion, 1D3 for me.
