Confused
Hi
I bought a 8GB memory card the other day, so I put in my 1Dmk3 which as 10.1 mil pixels and it says I have got 1468 shots left on a empty card, so then I put it in my 1Dmk2 which as only got 8 mil pixels and it says I have got 1086 shots left on a empty card how can you have less shots when you have got less pixels confused anyone know?
Cheers John.

Re: Confused
Is one camera set to RAW and one set to JPEG?
Alternatively, is one set to RAW+JPEG, and the other not?

Re: Confused
And literally as I was typing, was thinking about my friend Phill (Phill318)'s camera. His and mine are both 10MP, but my RAW files are about 11Mb, whereas his are 25Mb.
Is it possible that one of your camera's processors is not so efficient at saving the images? I don't know much about the 1D series, so this could be a stab in the dark!

Re: Confused
Depends on what you are shooting, if shooting a landsacape then the file will be large.
a shot of a grey jet against a greay sky will give a small file size.
Moving a card from 1 camera to another can carry info from one to the other that just not correspond,
you must format a card when its 1st inserted in the camera.

I had not took any shots on it was a brand new card I know different shots are different sizes but this had nothing on it.

Re: Confused
You have to compare like with like, the image size varies with the actual image being recorded, there is more information on a landscape as compared to a plain background. Picture styles will also affect the image size as different processing will be applied to the RAW images.
Re: Confused
Presumably your current file number is 8913. In continuous file numbering, your 1D2 is now showing the remaining images till the file number gets to 9999.
At 9999 the camera will prompt you to manually create a new folder.
Paul.

Re: Confused
This may be a silly question, but did you format the card when you put it in the other camera.
Like PC's different formatting can give different results, because formatting holds a little information on the media you are using.
Sometimes the little things in life confuse us even when the easy option is to ignore it
