Cheap lens for starter Canon or Sigma. Macro non macro?

Post by eye ride » Fri Sep 25, 2015 4:12 pm

We're are looking at a twin lens deal on the Canon 1200d that comes with either the Canon 75-300 non macro or a sigma 70-300mm macro lens.
Is it worth going with the sigma for its macro ability over the canon?

Do you need macro ? As a rule OEM lenses are better quality although there exceptions, if it was me I'd go with the Canon but I don't do macro photography. Try to find a review of the lenses on line and decide from there.

Thanks for your thoughts I'm of the same mind and favour the OEM route. But as she's new to photography I was thinking the macro version will open up her photo options until she finds what she really likes.

you may find that the Sigma lens with a `macro` function is not really `macro`, but more of a close focussing lens, which will give you a ratio of around 1:3.
