7DII or 5DIII?

I can see the benefits for a commercial photographer or someone using it for business purposes where images are put on large advertising boards and the like. Does the average photographer / enthusiast need 50MP plus? I don't look at my pics on a very large screen or projection - so for me probably not. Just hope it has a good knock-on effect to the cameras below it

I still think a 5D3 will compliment your 1D4 Chris, what we should be asking is, 1D4 or 7D2?! Similar price range, gatling gun and all that?!

Having said that is sequence has only about 1/3 of the pictures I took when the bird lifted off but it wouldn't have looked as good with 18 overlapping birds

Not sure how they tested them exactly but their conclusion is that if image quality is priority then the 1DIV wins.

Good article Chris, I read a few more comparing the 2 bodies and the 1D mk4 always wins on IQ but mostly the 7d mk2 wins overall. Tough choice Chris

Have a look at this video. It's an hour long but well worth the watch. Scott kelby knows what he is talking about and makes a lot of interesting points. He really rates the 7D MkII and he uses 5D's and 1D's too. 7D Batteries work fine on the mk2 and there is very little difference between the LP-E6 and the LP-E6N. Apart from price

The (N) just has a higher storage capacity and so will last longer in theory. It's like when you look at no-Canon batteries to use. Generally the difference is that they have a lower mAh, which as stated would mean that in theory they won't last as long in the camera per charge.

I think Canon have upped the capacity as the 7D MkII eats batteries much faster than the older 7D.

If you Google the difference between the 2 there is very little that differs, the extra capacity is less than 10% so hardly seems the extra money. Oh and if you do Google it make sure you have got a spare few hours as there are pages and pages of technical stuff about batteries

Update:

After testing Cookyboy's 5Diii in Japan back in April (having put tens of thousands of shutter actuations on it, lol), I have now ordered my own from Panamoz. I thought about the 7dii for a long time but for me low noise and image quality are highest on the agenda so the 5diii was the winner. It must be said though, for the money the 7dii packs a punch and is very hard to resist!

I'm now set for the rest of the aviation season

If you want quality then go full frame. In my case I went for the 7DII for a couple of reasons. The main one is the focussing/tracking system - my panning isn't great and I needed something pretty much foolproof. Second reason is the improved noise - much better than the 7D Mk1. I particularly like the Auto ISO on Manual - set the shutter speed and aperture and forget about compensating one or the other. Last reason is the 7DII is at least £600 cheaper than the 5DII (Panamoz).

Note that the new 5DS R is only £2,558 and must be outstanding at 50Mp full frame (I'm guessing) but you can pick up a brand new 1D X on fleabay for a smidge over three grand. Now that's quality

Nope, am thinkin I can only really afford the 7D II, realistically. Especially if I am going to look at a big lens before the end of the year too.
And your mention of the tracking capabilities, will be of more benefit to me than shelling out and extra grand for the full frame. Am certain, in time, I will reach those giddy heights.
