Tamron 150-600 F5-6.3 Di VC USD AO11 SP

Post by John flightpath » Sun Dec 16, 2018 2:07 pm

Is anyone using this lens on a cropped sensor Canon EOS. I currently have a Sigma 150-500 APO DG OS contemporary lens and was wondering whether it was worth changing.
Would appreciate your comments and opinions.

Cheers

I've been very happy using this on a 70D, there is a slight softening wide open at the 600 end but nothing terrible.I tend to just back off from max by a slight tweak on the zoom ring if I remember. There is a new version (G2, Generation 2 as Tamron call it ) that in reviews I've read is supposed to be sharper at the long end than at 150. Also there is now a new "Bigma" Sigma 60-600mm f4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sport. Again reviews are positive, only negative is it's big and heavy. Looking at Wex they are £1899 for the Sigma and £999 Tamron. I'm drawn toward the Sigma for that extra width at 60. At present I use TAMRON 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD when I need a bit more width along with the 150-600. The 16-300 does suffer from chromatic aberration wide open though. Maybe if I am a very good boy Santa will bring me a "Bigma". :D
Hope these ramblings help your decision process.

Hi Pete, yes I agree that the 60mm is better for those Big Birds eg: - C5 - A380
I have to disagree with the comment its bigger and heavier because its far better to handle than the 150/600 DG OS HSM Sport
when I first got it out of the box at Wex I thought Wow, that was even before I put it on a body and used it
to me it seems Sigma have really tried to lighten this lens as much as they can Biggest Problem must be price, but then you look at Canon's Big Len's Prices - GULP!!

i use the 150-600 A011 on my Nikon D7200 which is a crop sensor. used it through most of the air show season this year and once you get a handle on its weight, range and the best settings combo its a solid lens.

i've got some pleasing aircraft and bird shots with it this year. yes it can be a bit soft at 600, but i tend to roll it back a bit anyways.

a good lens for me. been very happy with it, any shortcomings have been down to me as a photographer and not the lens really

I must admit I have been tempted by the G2 version of this lens, if I get a few quid together and can be persuaded to part with my Sigma 150-500, then I think that is the lens would go for.
