Baltic Air Policing

Five German Typhoons arrived at Ämari today as GAFK31A, B, C, D and E from Nörvenich Air Base, TaktLwG 31 "Boelcke" for their four months Baltic Air Policing deployment taking over from RAFs 6 Sqn from Lossiemouth.

The Hungarian AF also started to arrive in Siauliai today in the form of HUAF808 AN26 serial 603 from Kecskemét for their four month deployment with four JAS 39C Gripens from the 1st of September.

HuAF Gripens arrivied in Siauliai from Kecskemét on the 27th of August as PUMA11, 12, 21 and 22 for their four month deployment in the Baltics, tail numbers 39, 40, 32 and 38.

German Typhoons scrambled from Ämari (callsigns EI01 and 02) for the first time since deployment this morning for RuAF Tu-22/s and Su-27/s heading west in the Gulf of Finland.

1500z German Typhoons scrambled from Ämari for the second time today to intercept two RuAF Su-27 heading to mainland Russia from Kaliningrad, were cleared supersonic to catch up.

25/9/15 German Typhoons EI01 & EI02 scrambled at 1015z from Ämari to intercept a bogey aircraft in the Gulf of Finland heading 242 FL220 speed .80. Bogey identified as 'a fighter type aircraft' large number 95 tail number RF-33754 could be a new Su27 to the Russian Baltic fleet...possibly ex RF-90754. The Su27 was using callsign 89222 routing Pushkin to Chernyakhovsk.

17/12/15 NATO Air Policing jets scrambled to intercept RUAF (FSB) An-72 callsign 72010 (RF-72010) flying from Kaliningrad to Sheremetyevo. 72010 had filed a flightplan but hadn't contacted air traffic control. Reports of sonic booms were heard in Ventspils, Latvia at around 1300z.
