Photo no.3, the RF84F Thunderflash is VERY unusual. Anybody apart from me know why???? If nobody comes up with it, I will tell you in 48 hours. It has nothing to do with the numbers or paintwork :) Look closely and you will see why.

Well the giveaway is the anhedral on the tailplanes, to do with the FICON trials with a B-36. Is that small rectangular block beneath the wingtip (assuming it's on the aircraft) part of the hook-up gear? Not sure how many F-84/RF-84s were involved in the trials programme, but there can't be that many survivors - perhaps this is the only one?

Cheers,
M

Only thing I can think of is it was a FICON Aircraft ?

Not sure how long they've been together but it is an International Harvester not a Bedford , although it looks similar

Yep, You're right. When I was there many years ago, I think it still had the hook forward of the windscreen. Can't see it in the pic. Maybe this is not the same aircraft.
Only used with the B.36. Wing tip join up was not part of this programme. That was only with straight-winged F.84s. Regards. :)

Isn’t the B-29/B-50 actually the B-50A 46-0010 ‘Lucky Lady II’ that completed the first non-stop circumnavigation of the world in 1949? I believe it took around 94 hours. I saw this aircraft at Chino in October 1978 lying behind a hangar. It’s a shame it seems to be in the same condition now as when I first saw it.

What's bothering me is the size/strength of the moths that have been at the tail of that Super Sabre (?) 63141 visible in the L-29 pic!

I saw one of the FICON F-84's in the DRMO disposal compound at Wright Patterson AFB in 2006 I think. It had another F-84 and a B-57 fuselage with it All awaiting disposal. I believe the FICON example survived with a local collector. There was a thread on Warbird Info Exchange about it a few years back.
