Post by Pen Pusher » Wed Jul 04, 2018 6:31 pm

Monday morning and Short Skyvan/OE-FDN of Pink Aviation Services, based in Austria, arrived to take a group of photographers on an air-to-air sortie with B-17/Sally-B. Tuesday and it was the turn of six fighters from the Air Leasing/Anglia Restorations fleet who were to get the air-to-air treatment. In the order taken.

I do... and agree totally with all the comments above... a superb top quality post and a great start to the July Bimbles.

Brian I hope to see and catch up with you at the Duxford September Show as I can't make Legends this year.

Look forward to your next bimble at Duxford and around London.

Best rgds

Quality and interest as always. Not sure which word to use for the Skyvan - torn between different, bizarre and ghastly!

A quiet Friday at Duxford apart from early afternoon when Hispano HA-1112-M1L Buchon/'White 9'/(G-AWHH) finished in the markings of Uffz Edmund Roβmann, Luftwaffe III./JG 52, Eastern Front, September 1941, flew in from Sywell for a few hours and mid afternoon the return to Duxford of Spitfire LF.Vc/JG891/(G-LFVC) finished in the desert colour scheme and markings of 249 "Gold Coast" Squadron, Royal Air Force, operating from Malta during 1942/1943.

Compared to the last few weekends, a very quiet Saturday at Duxford but enough warbird flying to make it interesting. Classic Wings were doing their usual fly in and fly with a Spitfire and the Blenheim went up for a handling flight with a few circuits and a display routine thrown in and I think was off on air show duty later in the afternoon. JR took JG891 up for two flights and PK flew the highly polished P-40C for about an hour. In the order taken.

I think it's the first time in the last two weeks there has not been wall to wall blue sky and sunshine at Duxford. Clouds rolled in and diffused the light although it was still incredibly warm. The P-40C and F both had handling flights with a spot of aerobatics thrown in but the highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of B-25J Mitchell/44-30423/N3675G/Photo Fanny of the Planes of Fame Museum closely followed by B-25J Mitchell/45-8898/N898BW/Axis Nightmare of the Tri-State Warbird Museum who were night stopping after flying in from Sardinia and I last heard they were due to leave early on Tuesday, but that could have changed. They had been taking part in a remake of the book Catch-22 which is being turned into a 6 part TV series, directed by George Clooney, and will be shown in the UK on Channel 4 next year. In the order taken.

A lot of people at Duxford for a Monday and mid afternoon, according to the tower, the temperature was 27C. A few departures with the Red Bull B-25 leaving before the museum opened and the Norwegian DC-3 picked up its passengers and left just after the museum opened. The French Hurricane and P-51/Trusty Rusty headed for their respective homes. The Red Bull DC-6B took a group of passengers on a 20 minute flight over Old Warden and Cambridge with a very nice run and break on its return. It parked up on the grass in front of the tower instead of the other side of the airfield. In the order taken.

Top quality as usual, thanks Brian. Loving the desert schemed Spitfire, airborne shot from 7th july is stunning.

Wonderful Brian. What a good Thursday and Friday that was at Duxford!. Much busier than previous pre-show days. Overjoyed at seeing the DC6. What a fabulous machine. As someone who remembers Swissair DC6s etc this was lovely to see. Many thanks, regards, John.

A very, very blustery Saturday at Duxford so much so that Classic Wings cancelled all pleasure flights that day. The wind didn't stop a few war birds getting airborne though. During the morning P-51D/Miss Helen flew off for about 45 minutes and Spitfire Mk.1/N3200 took off, flew a flypast at Fowlmere for family and veterans of the 339th FG who were visiting and returned to Duxford. In the afternoon P-51D/Sharkmouth along with B-17/Sally B flew off to Old Buckenham and back for their air show. In the order taken.
