17 yrs. ago this w/end since the RAF quit Germany after more than half a century keeping the peace. I felt privileged to attend the ceremonial closure ceremony held @ Bruggen where the reviewing officer was ACM Sir Peter Squire who passed away recently. With the retirement of Tornado next year the last link with Germany will be severed.

Great post. Enjoyed many visits, working and photo opportunities, at RAF Bruggen from JHQ just down the road.
Times change. Thanks for posting.

Possible tenuous link - Chipmunk - RAF Gatow had one for sniffing around Berlin - Chipmunk continues with BBMF at Coningsby today.

Oh boy (wiping the tears away)...
5+yrs on 17(F) and 3yrs in CSF at Bruggen before handing over to our 'Green' colleagues.
This, alongside nearly 6yrs at Laarbruch earlier, were certainly some career highlights!
Great collection - marked as one of my thread favs.

Not all that tenuous as they were used for exercising the right to fly the air corridor often with camera toting passenger to do a bit of spying and of course there's still the support helis which are likely to be around for the foreseeable future but Tornado
is the last combat aircraft which served in Germany.

Sometimes seeing aircraft come and go in our lives, like the Tornado GR4 and the others that served over in Germany, really brings it home in the changes we are undergoing.
I hope it will all be for the best, but well done for catching the closing days there Mick...
